New funding for MERP

Published: 11 October 2016

Following the NERC call for proposals to fulfil the final part of the Marine Ecosystem Research Programme’s activities through “Work Package 3: Application of models developed to test the impact and efficiency of potential management solutions”, two new projects have been funded.

Through a competitive funding call open to all members of the Consortium, Mike Heath (University of Strathclyde) and Tom Webb (University of Sheffield) were successful and will lead the new projects that will make up the final modules of the programme.

Understanding trade-offs to maximise the benefits from living marine natural capital (Module 7, led by Mike Heath) will investigate the trade-offs between economic and cultural services in the UK marine environment and examine how benefits from living natural capital can be optimised.

Cumulative impacts and management of marine ecosystems (Module 8, led by Tom Webb) seeks to understand how multiple activities interact to affect marine ecosystems and establish the cumulative effects of current and potential management actions.

Both projects kick-off in January 2017 and run until the end of the programme in April 2018.
