Dr Pierre Helaouët

Pierre Helaouët is currently employed in the Sir Alister Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science as a numerical ecologist and Data Product team leader. His research is: (1) Theoretical, by trying to use and develop concepts such as the ecological niche, communities’ network, spatio- temporal successions of species,etc. (2) Quantitative, by focusing on the identification and explanation of geographic variability in ecological communities using spatio-temporal statistical models (e.g. eigenfunction spatial analysis, Bayesian models). He has written papers dealing with ecological niche concepts, marine pelagic biodiversity, global change, biogeography, mesoscale ecology and spatial and temporal scales. As well as contributing to the blue sky research, he is involved in a large number of contracts; offering his statistical and numerical skills to his colleagues, students and external collaborators.
